GLAMPING LUXURY

'Kotkan pesä' - The Eagle's Nest
Glamping-Kalliokumpu_web.jpg

'Kotkanpesä', the Eagle's Nest is a luxurious and spacious 4-season Lotus Belle tent with high side walls. It stands on its own wooden platform and has a private terrace with a view of the island forest. Behind the tent you will find your own outdoor forest shower. This makes showering a little refreshing experience. The furnishing of the tent, in Scandinavian style, is luxurious and comfortable. You will find everything you need for your stay, but nothing more. Simplicity, in our opinion, contributes to deeper relaxation.

Not far from our lodge, in a hidden spot in the island forest, is an eagle's nest. Large, built from strong, gnarled branches, it hovers high up in the crown of an old pine tree. Sea eagles and ospreys compete every year for who gets to move into this magnificent nest to raise their young. The eagle's nest, as a natural hideaway, offers protection and space and is full of stories. Did you know that many an eagle's nest has served as a home and refuge for growing generations of eagles for decades? Eagles love to have a good spot from which to explore. Often we see them, high in the sky, just above the lodge. By the way: They are faithful and usually stay with their partner for life.

'Metsänhenki' - Forest Spirit

'Metsänhenki', the forest spirit is a great 4-season Sibley Belle tent. The wooden platform with a private terrace creates space for relaxation in front of the tent during your stay. The equipment of the tent is cozy and stylish Scandinavian. Everything you need is quickly at hand. The Woodcuisine just a stone's throw away.

Many different animals live here in the forests around the lodge. We consider them roommates and neighbors. Very close to where the popular 'Forest Spirit' now stands, a rabbit put her children in the care of the lichens and mosses to hide them from the fox. It can often be heard at night, among other unfamiliar noises, roaming about barking and screeching. But in the forest spirit you are safe! Security is the word that aptly describes the atmosphere of this accommodation. And so that it can really stand there safely, we even asked the forest spirits for permission to set it up there. More specifically... the people of the subterranean, the Ulda. According to old beliefs, they live right next to us in the Otherworld. And we can say from our own experience that they would not like to erect his tent by mistake on one of their farmsteads.

'Peikon piilo'-Troll's Hideout(2024)
Bildschirmfoto 2022-11-18 um 11.38.41.png

'Peikon piilo', the troll nook or goblin lair, like the forest spirit, is an ultra cozy 4-season Sibley Belle tent. Firm and grounded, it is connected to a cozy terrace by a footbridge. Its bright, light and yet troll-friendly ambience gives our 'Peikon piilo' a very special charm. The inner child in us will surely enjoy it.

Trolls play an important role in Scandinavian mythology. In Finnish the troll is called 'peikko', which can also be translated as goblin. Every landscape has its great and small mythical creatures. So there are the forest, rock and sea goblins on the island. It is said that some nights a rock goblin has been seen dancing by the campfire on top of our hill. Maybe he lives in the granite under our lodge. Many trolls can shapeshift and tend to be shy, so they'll quickly hide and turn into a rock or tree stump before anyone sees them. The most well-known trolls in Finland today are the Moomins, created by Finnish-Swedish writer and artist Tove Jansson, and you can even visit them nearby. The Moomin trolls are harmony-loving beings who are always full of curiosity in search of adventures.

What to pack for a glamping stay at Kalliokumpu Island Lodge:

Yay! Are you almost on your way to us and the last thing you have to do is pack up for your "hideaway"? We want to make your glamping stay as easy as possible.

Each glamping accommodation has almost everything you could need: fully made beds and towels, wood stove heating, cups, plates, cutlery, soap & shampoo, coffee and tea making facilities. In the Woodcuisine, the lodge offers you additional things such as: charcoal grill and gas stove, pans, pots, cooking and kitchen utensils (knives, sieves, spatulas...), spices (salt, pepper, sugar, paprika, oil ect.), matches , bottle opener, washing-up liquid, tea towels, chopping boards.

What you should bring with you:

Bon appetit - being outside makes you hungry. And good food contributes to well-being.

Your Journal - A stay at the lodge gives you the opportunity to relax and reflect. He often makes you think outside the box. Nature is a proven way to boost your creativity. So be sure to pack paper and pencil. Or try to capture the beautiful landscape with a pen or a few words. Here's your chance!

Dress appropriately for the Weather - Out here by the sea, the weather can change quickly. Kustavi is known as the sunniest area in Finland (which we can confirm), but a rain jacket and sun hat, as well as a (fleece) sweater and layers against low temperatures at night (recommended in May, August & September) are recommended . In addition, sturdy shoes for forest and rock tours as well as easy to put on slippers (e.g. crocks, garden shoes) for short distances out of the tent. For a visit to the sauna or swimming in the sea or lake, a bathing suit or swimming trunks should not be missing.

That one book - you know, the book that might be on your bedside table. From which you read the first two chapters, but never further. Now is the time. Your stay at Kalliokumpu Island Lodge is the perfect place to get comfortable and read without the distractions of everyday life.

Your Camera - We don't recommend spending all your time in front of one of your devices, but there is something magical about the scenery around Kalliokumpu Island Lodge. It's really something special when you can capture just a small part of it and take it home with you. When you're feeling stressed at home, having a snapshot or nice shot hanging up can give you a sense of calm. And if you like stargazing, try photographing the night sky. This even works with most smartphones :-)

Other equipment - water bottle; washcloth; ear plugs against the wind in case there is a storm and it bothers you; biodegradable soap and cosmetics with minimal fragrance (very important if you want to spot wildlife); Flashlight or headlamp.

What you should not bring with you:

Alcohol; hair dryers; High heels.
